The United Earth Space Council — the governing body that funded and launched the original Marathon colony ship to Tau Ceti IV. Once the most powerful institution in human space, the UESC’s grip on the colony collapsed over a century ago. Their remnant infrastructure still dots the planet: supply caches, comm relays, and sealed vaults full of classified records. Whatever authority they still claim is enforced through automated directives and contract postings that read more like bureaucratic cleanup than a plan for the future.
The UESC converted the Martian moon Deimos into the Marathon, a generation ship launched in 2472 to establish humanity’s first extrasolar colony. The expedition reached Tau Ceti IV and built the settlement of New Cascadia — but contact was lost, and the colony failed under circumstances that remain unclear. Now, over a century later, the UESC issues directives from a distance, attempting to reclaim data and assets from a world it no longer controls.
